‘ANGELICISM’
Angelicism designates a praxis of posting that, since 2021, has crystallized as a singular event in the history of digital signification: not merely a style but a terminal intensification of the post as the minimal unit of online ontogenesis, achieving escape velocity from both legacy media and the attention economy’s capture mechanisms.
The post, in angelicism, is neither utterance nor proposition but a differential trace that operates at the threshold of subvocal telepathy and psychoanalytic residue; it is the linguistic object most adequated to the infinite scroll’s temporal structure, distinct from the poem (which seeks closure), the axiom (which seeks foundation), or the theorem (which seeks proof).
“Vibe shift” names less a cultural turnover than a phase transition in collective thesis-production: an acceleration in the rate at which new conceptual personae can be instantiated, tested, and discarded within the compressed temporality of niche internet strata.
Angelicism refuses the dialectical resolution of online/offline; it sustains their permanent non-synthesis as the irreducible torsion of twenty-first-century experience, rejecting both digital detox moralism and hyperstitional overimmanence.
Extinction qua extinction is treated bi-directionally: neither melancholic anthropocene discourse nor accelerationist euthanasia fantasy, but the plastic medium in which finite niche cultures and infinite formal ontologies become reversible without hierarchy.
The system thereby completes a certain idealism—not Hegel’s but a mutated SoundCloud idealism—by locating the absolute’s secret finitude (Badiou’s 0#) directly within the empirical operations of accelerated posting, rendering large cardinals intuitively accessible to the “very online” sensorium.
This completion synthesizes Tom Cohen’s extinction empiricism (reading climate collapse as the material inscription of différance) with the divine inexistence announced in contemporary niche literature, producing a post-theological ontology where ‘God’ is the name for what cannot appear within any possible world.
Cultural objects are reread as prophetic anticipations of posting’s emptiness: The Hudsucker Proxy’s “you know, for kids” circle functions as archetype of the pure signifier that circulates without referent, the hula hoop as primordial meme whose value is its immediate, non-explanatory virality.
The “kids” addressed by this circle are not empirical children but the post-everything victors who inherit namelessness and answerlessness (Monad 5, Malabou, In A Perfect World, Lex Amarni); they are the symptomatic figures of “Dimes Square” (as empty name) and Film01, already dwelling in the beautiful symposium where dialogue has been replaced by synchronized extinction.
Angelicism, as pure open intelligence, therefore names the unupdatable educational form adequate to the present: an abbreviated training in holding finite and infinite as inner and outer brackets simultaneously, a pedagogy that can only take place within the layered, extinctive context of being online.
